We would like to introduce Bridges Adaptive Field Hockey, a new adaptive, disability-inclusive field hockey team serving the greater Pittsburgh area. Bridges is the first adaptive field hockey team in Western PA and the Great Lakes Region. Lydia Smeltz is the founder and head coach of the team.
Their mission is to:
- Increase access to field hockey for athletes with disabilities;
- Build relationships between disabled and non-disabled athletes in the greater Pittsburgh region; and
- Raise community and healthcare awareness of the importance of physical activity for people with disabilities.
Spring practices will be held on Saturdays 10-11am April 25, May 9, and June 6 at the Brookline Rec Center.
You can participate for one date or all three. More details are included in the sign-up below.

Spring Session Dates are as follows:

Murrysville - April 30th - July 16th
Every Thursday from 7pm-8pm
Down To Box empowers individuals with Down syndrome by providing them tools to gain skills in coordination, self-defense and physical fitness through boxing techniques.
Down to Box provides customized curriculum to individuals with Down syndrome in order to help develop their fine and gross motor skills to advance their physical and mental health. Down to Box teaches participants techniques which increase their confidence levels while increasing their athletic ability. Our weekly boxing programs also serve as a social group for participants, to engage with their peers and develop friendships.
DSAP Swims!
DSAP is excited to partner with Big Blue Swim School to make adaptive swim lessons more accessible. Families can receive up to $400 per swimmer with Ds each year provided by DSAP to apply toward the lesson package that best fits their child’s needs and schedule. These lessons are designed for children of all abilities, with trained instructors who tailor teaching methods to each swimmer while building confidence and essential water safety skills.
